Zack is coming back to The Big Bang Theory, and he’s bringing a brand new wife along for the ride.
According to TV Line, Brian Thomas Smith will return to The Big Bang Theory as Penny’s ex-husband before it signs off for good in 2019.
Lindsey Kraft will take on the role of the newest wife in Zack’s life, and it sounds like there’s going to be trouble in store for the couple.
“Zack and his wife want a baby, but when Zack is infertile, they ask Leonard for help,” reads the logline for The Big Bang Theory Season 12 Episode 12 which is slated to air January 10.
Kraft will appear on the series in a recurring capacity. The actress has previously appeared on The Conners, Grace, and Frankie, and Living Biblically.
The Big Bang Theory remains a hit for CBS, with The Big Bang Theory Season 12 currently averaging a 2.3 rating in the adults 18-49 demo.
While that figure represents declines of almost 20 percent year-to-year, it remains the highest rated comedy series on TV, all the while being the highest-rated and most-watched series on CBS.
It will end with 279 episodes, solidifying itself as the longest running multi-camera series in television history.
The show’s demise was revealed back in August, just hours after star Mayim Bialik tweeted about the first taping of the season.
In a joint statement, Warner Bros. Television, CBS and Chuck Lorre Productions said, “We are forever grateful to our fans for their support of The Big Bang Theory during the past twelve seasons.”
“We, along with the cast, writers and crew, are extremely appreciative of the show’s success and aim to deliver a final season, and series finale, that will bring The Big Bang Theory to an epic creative close.”
We think it’s fair to say the series will leave a hole on the network’s schedule, and all eyes will be on spin-off Young Sheldon to see if it can continue to be a success without the robust lead-in.
